Top 100 New York Fashion Week Looks, Fall 2012

The New York collections ended on a very strong note and majority of the American designers focused on ladylike looks, monochromatic ensembles and lots of fur. With the exception of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler, who managed to mix strong sportswear and tough urbanism into one highly wearable and badass collection, overall there weren't any breakthroughs in design.
Michael Kors, once again, was able to put comfort and luxury together and made us want to go cosy-up with our love, high up in the mountains in a warm cabin. Oscar de la Renta didn't spare us the luxe factor neither, although this time bourgeois came in baby blue and powder pink silhouettes. Not bad.
Marc Jacobs was slightly underwhelming, with both his eponymous lines. The Edwardian-meets-the-mad-hatter undercurrent simply didn't work for us, although the structures and cut were impeccable. The Pilgrim shoes were also semi-chic. Over at Donna Karan things were a lot more interesting. She fixated on suits for fall and reminded us how sexy it is to wear menswear with a feminine twist. Her DKNY collection was just as strong, where she presented two of our favorite New York fashion week looks: an amazing, black leather skirtsuit and an oxblood coat stunner.
Ralph Lauren showed a spectacular collection -- and number one in our book -- also inspired by the 1920s chic and World War I England. (Do you watch Downton Abbey?) Double-breasted plaids, chic men's inspired pantsuits, and sultry gold and black evening dresses. Very well executed, very well presented and extremely desirable.
Of course, how can we have this review without mentioning the new age designers. Prabal Gurung took the crown for most cohesive collection, presenting it in an obmbre effect: starting with all-black, going through a blue period and finishing with heavenly whites and golds. Simply lovely. Alexander Wang showed his version of the urban woman by presenting clothes with sleek sheen; Christian Siriano's demure collection showed the designer's serious side; and Jason Wu paid homage to China, and showed some gorgeous red and black lace pieces.
There were many other mention-worthy designers who offered spectacular presentations: Altazurra, Diane von Furstenberg, Rodarte, doo. ri, and Peter Som, to name a few. They are all included in our Top 100 New York Fashion Week Looks, Fall 2012, which you can peruse at your leisure above. And if you wish to watch our Fashion Week wrap, hop over to FFMag TV.

There might be plenty of glam on the catwalks of the Lincoln Center in New York, but you know there's just as much glam and fabulous fashions on the front row and outside of the tents. Here's what our camera captured in our first FFMag StreetStyle Stalker series. (click on the images for a larger view)
Joy Cioci Fall 2012

Joy Cioci launched her eponymous collection during Fall 2011 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and after two seasons at the coveted event the Florida native feels right at home. Her presentation at the Box of the Lincoln Center was rather refreshing, and chiffon took center stage. The material came in many shapes and forms — sheer, printed, opaque, solid, pastel, pleated and draped — combined with fur, cashmere and crepe. The layers of fur, cashmere and leather were in fact quite impressive and worked well against the femininity and softness of the rest.
A few noteworthy items included a silk chiffon snakeskin print blouse combined with a beautiful butterfly chiffon skirt; a leather dress with boucle piping paired with a boucle jacket with leather details; or the ivory cashmere coat with rabbit and fox fur bodice, put over a pleated dress.
Here is the entire collection, and watch our interview with Cioci to learn more about the designer's inspiration behind the fall 2012 collection.

It was quite a frenzy backstage at the Song Jung Wan Fall 2012 show. The designer was whisked away back and fort by publicists and photographers, but when Carole Alt and the quite a few cast members of Gossip Girl showed up, the fever pitch reached a state of frenzy. And all this excitement wasn't without a merit -- Son Jung Wan, who is one of five Korean-born designers chosen to present at New York Fashion Week by Concept Korea, a group fashion show that helps Korean designers break into the U.S. market, showed a collection worthy of the Lincoln Center.
Light and ethereal, but with a certain element of cozy, her fall 2012 line was filled with cream chiffon, alpaca and jacquard silk, and delicious furs. Some standout pieces included an orange wool jacket with flower detail, combined with a cream wool pant; a gold silk jacquard coat paired with a green wool blend skirt with mink lining; or the green striped fur jacked and green wool skirt combo that received many positive nods.
But here, peruse her entire collection and don't forget to watch the spectacular runway finale.
