Fashion Files Magazine: Ready to Wear

Best of Couture Spring 2012

The top designers of world fashion gathered once again in Paris to present their take on couture for Spring 2012. This was one of the most exciting couture seasons in a while, not only because Donatella Versace returned to couture after an eight-year absence, and Dior -- sans Galliano -- presented a rather spectacular show, but also because one of our favorite new couturiers, Giambattista Valli, is permanent on the roster of high fashion.

And there was plenty to lust for.

Pierre Paolo Piccoli and Maria Grazia Chiuri opted for the soft and feminine for Valentino, influenced by the eighteenth century's Age of Enlightenment and "real" values that Rousseau endorsed in his State of Nature philosophy. The result was full of bloom and country air. Jean Paul Gaultier paid homage to the late Amy Winehouse, with beehives, loud colors, lace and cigarettes, but at the same time staying true to his signature style of amazing corsetry and long trenches.  The signer's father, however, has publicly condoned the collection.

Armani Privé's reptile style was probably one of the best couture shows Mr. Armani has presented. Putting emphasis on metamorphosis, his pieces  transformed from one shape to another seamlessly, playing with the delightful green colors. Karl Lagerfeld took us on a flight on the Chanel plane, and with stewardesses dressed in couture Chanel the sky was the limit. And it seems like the sky was the inspiration behind the color palette for the collection as there were 150 shades of blue that walked the catwalk. And of course who can forget the painted faces at Alexis Mabille, which in fact matched perfectly with the flower hats.

Here are the best looks from Paris Couture 2012.
