Fashion Files Magazine: Ready to Wear

Christian Siriano Fall 2012

Echoing from his Spring 2012 line Christian Siriano, once again, presented a demure and toned down collection, but nonetheless noteworthy. Struggling to be admitted in the "coveted designers' club" and by the fashion industry at all, Siriano has completely changed his tune. He presented a chic and simple line, which was a distant memory from the flamboyancy he was known for during his Project Runway days.

In front of a packed house at the Eyebeam Studios in NYC, and in front of the watchful eye of Cathy Horyn, Siriano showed he's all grown up. His collection was inspired by the 1933 movie Vampire Bat, he said, although that inspiration was hinted rather sedately: A wing sleeve sheath dress, a faux croc coat with wing, a bat vein moto jacket or a batwing hem shirt dress were a few of the noticeable looks. The color palette was quite dark, with demure grays and blacks and the occasional pop of burgundy, representing blood, I can safely assume.

There were no showstopping gowns either, but rather, chic silhouettes that did him well, and the spectacular marble-jacquard-jacket-and-pin-tucked-maxi-skirt combo drew quite a few claps.  It will be interesting to see how Siriano's core clientele will react to his newly acquired, cleaned-up look.
