Fashion Files Magazine: Ready to Wear

Mathieu Mirano Fall 2012

Mathieu Mirano is new to New York Fashion Week. He is young, energetic, talented, and very eager to talk to the press. And that's a good thing, because this native New Yorker  has a lot to say, and show. His Fall 2012 presentation was at the Box stage of the Lincoln Center, but it may as well have been at the Studio or Stage, as Mirano's fall line is worthy of a larger audience. Full of texture, colors and complicated technique the newcomer showed an array of his talent, introducing jackets, skirts, dresses, gowns, blouses and pants.

His autumn line was mainly inspired by dragons, he told me backstage while we were perusing the clothes. In fact,  his inspiration was everywhere, including the metal zipper heads, which were -- you guessed it -- dragon heads.

"The collection is all about dragons and their riders. I imagined these women who ride their dragons, and by the end they lose their homes by this big forest fire," he added and then proceeded to showed me a spectacular black organza dress with leather scale embroidery, which was started and finished that same day.

Other noteworthy pieces included the fully embroidered sunray jacket, which you probably saw me rave about on Twitter and Facebook, or the red sun motif fur coat, or the laser cut gown with sequined applique.

Here is the full presentation and be sure to watch our entire interview with the designer.
